Make Your Move to the UAE Simple with Mercia Movers – From Dubai to Abu Dhabi, We’ve Got You Covered

Whether you’re relocating to the high-rise skyline of Dubai, the political hub of Abu Dhabi, the cultural quarters of Sharjah, or the peaceful pace of Ras Al Khaimah, moving to the United Arab Emirates is an exciting step. But like all international relocations, it’s also packed with regulations, red tape, and risk—unless you have the right movers by your side.

That’s where Mercia Movers comes in.

We’re not just about moving boxes. We deliver peace of mind, managing every step of your international move—from packing and shipping to customs clearance and final delivery—anywhere in the UAE.

What Can You Bring (and How Much is Duty-Free)?

Moving your used personal effects and household items? Good news! The UAE offers duty-free import for secondhand items—provided you’re a resident and your paperwork is in order.

To qualify, you’ll need:

  • A valid UAE residence visa stamped in your passport

  • A detailed packing inventory

  • A copy of your passport

  • An authorization letter for customs clearance

New items, however, are subject to 5% customs duty and 5% VAT based on their invoice value. And if there’s no invoice? Customs will estimate the value—and you’ll also be charged a $300 processing fee.

Most shipments undergo physical inspection or X-ray scanning, so it’s important to clearly label boxes (e.g., “Books,” “DVDs,” “Kitchenware”). That saves time, avoids confusion, and keeps you in the customs authority’s good books.

Got a Car, Pet, or Diplomatic Status? We’ve Got That Covered Too.

If you’re importing a vehicle, it must be left-hand drive and meet UAE road standards. You’ll need:

  • Purchase invoice and proof of ownership

  • Residence visa and passport

  • Detailed original B/L

  • Customs clearance to receive a vehicle clearance certificate—needed to register it locally

Just remember: only one vehicle per person per year is allowed, and it must be deregistered before future export.

Bringing your furry friends? We love that. But pets require:

  • A health certificate, vaccination card, and rabies serum neutralization certificate

  • An import permit, obtained via the UAE Ministry of Agriculture

  • Microchip ID and a passport (yes, for the pet!)

Only two pets per person can be imported, and pets under 4 months of age are not allowed.

If you’re moving under diplomatic exemption, we’ll manage the additional documentation and liaise with your embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Your shipment must be consigned as “Diplomatic Cargo” to qualify for duty-free entry.

Serving All Emirates – Wherever You’re Headed

We offer full relocation services to every emirate, including:

Dubai – The business capital, expat paradise, and city of the future
Abu Dhabi – The UAE’s elegant capital, rich in culture and finance
Sharjah – Heritage-rich, family-friendly, and more relaxed than its neighbours
Ras Al Khaimah – Quiet, coastal, and full of natural charm
Ajman, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain – Smaller emirates, big opportunities

No matter your destination, we have a local network of partners and know the customs protocols across all UAE ports and airports—including Jebel Ali, Port Rashid, Khalifa Port, and Abu Dhabi International Airport.

What Not to Pack (Seriously)

The UAE is strict when it comes to prohibited items. Do not pack:

  • Weapons or replicas (including decorative swords)

  • Pornographic materials (yes, even magazines)

  • Alcohol (strictly banned in personal shipments)

  • Large quantities of food

  • Religious books that are not Islamic

  • Political materials deemed controversial

Even restricted items like books, films, statues, or photographs may be censored or confiscated. If they’re acceptable, clearance can take 10–15 days—so plan ahead and consult us before shipping.

If you’re unsure whether something can be shipped, just ask. It’s better to confirm than to risk delays, fines, or confiscation.
