Moving from Outside the EU? Here’s What You Need

If you’re relocating to Hungary from the UK, USA, or any other non-EU country, you may be eligible for duty-free import of used household goods, provided:

✅ You’ve lived outside the EU for at least 12 months
✅ Your items have been owned and used for more than 6 months
✅ You are changing your primary residence to Hungary
✅ The shipment arrives within 12 months of your residence permit issue date

You’ll need to provide:

• Inventory list in English and Hungarian (we’ll translate it)

• Copy of your passport

• A Hungarian residence permit / EGT card

• Hungarian address registration card

• Hungarian tax card

• Original Power of Attorney

• A declaration confirming your change of residence

• A value declaration for the goods

• An employment certificate from your previous employer

• Documents proving you lived abroad (e.g. utility bills, rental agreements)

All these documents must be approved by Hungarian Customs before your shipment arrives.

For Returning Hungarian Citizens
