International Removals & Shipping to New Zealand
New Zealand is an island country in the south Pacific Ocean. It consists of two land masses referred to as the North Island and South Island, it also has more than 700 smaller islands. It covers just over 100,000 square miles. New Zealand’s capital is Wellington and its most popular city is Auckland situated on the North West of the North Island.
The official language is English and Maori, with English being the more prominent. New Zealand ranks highly in international comparisons of national performance, such as quality of life, education, protection of civil liberties, government transparency, and economic freedom.
New Zealand underwent major economic changes during the 1980s, which transformed it from a protectionist to a liberalised free-trade economy. New Zealand boasts a wealth of cultural diversity and career opportunities, which attracts many Brits each year to start a new life across the other side of the globe. There are a number of different visa options for this country, all of which have their own criteria, Resident Visa, Resident from Work Visa and Temporary Visa. Please contract our operations department who can discuss the options available to you. Our dedicated move co-coordinators will take you through the entire process and we offer a variety of services to move your goods.
These are as follows: Shared Container (Groupage). This is the recommended option if you’re not shipping a whole house. Your belongings will be sent to New Zealand in a shared shipping container and you will only be charged for the space you use. This option is great if you’re moving to New Zealand on a budget and you don’t mind waiting slightly longer for your items.
Full Container Load (FCL). This is the recommended option if you’re shipping a whole house to New Zealand. You’ll be charged for a full container to fill how you wish. We will deliver the container to your UK residence, pack it for you and then ship it to New Zealand and deliver it to your new home. This option costs more, but it is much quicker than a shared container.

Moving to New Zealand – Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to ship to New Zealand?
Sea freight typically takes 8–12 weeks, while air freight is much quicker (1–2 weeks) but more costly.
What items are restricted when moving to New Zealand?
New Zealand has strict biosecurity laws. Items like food, plants, wooden furniture, and outdoor equipment must be declared and may require inspection.
What documents are needed for customs clearance?
You will need a passport, visa or residency permit, a detailed inventory, and a completed Unaccompanied Personal Effects (UPE) declaration.
Do I need to be in New Zealand for customs clearance?
Yes. You must have arrived in New Zealand before your shipment can be cleared. We can assist you in nominating a representative if needed.
Can I bring my vehicle to New Zealand?
Yes, but it must meet NZ import standards. You’ll need import approval and documentation. Taxes or compliance fees may apply.
What’s the best way to pack my goods?
We recommend professional export packing. If self-packing, label clearly, use strong materials, and avoid prohibited goods.
Are there duties or taxes on household goods?
If you’re moving permanently and meet eligibility, your personal goods are usually duty- and GST-free. We’ll help determine your exemption status.
Is moving insurance included?
No, but we recommend it. Transit insurance protects against damage, loss, or delay. We can provide tailored coverage.
Can you store my goods before or after the move?
Yes. We offer flexible storage solutions in both the UK and New Zealand for short- or long-term needs.
